On October 27 the Polish Ministry of Defence cancelled its tender for combat trainers. It will be replaced by a new one, which will call for a pure trainer without combat capabilities. The main reason for the change is a reduction in funding by one third, from PLN2,150 million (€500 million) to PLNl,450 million. The money was due to buy 16 aircraft, a training system with mission planning/debriefing and full mission simulator, a logistical package and type conversion for 12 pilots. The tender was launched with the issue of a Request for Information (Rfl) in September 2010. A Request for Proposal (RfP) was sent on June 3 to five contenders: Aero Vodochody (L159B PL), Alenia Aermacchi (M346), BAE Systems (Hawk), Korea Aerospace Industries (T-50P) and Patria (Hawk T51/T66). The deadline for submitting bids was July 29, but was prolonged by one month. The first eight aircraft were to be delivered by November 30, 2014 (not necessary in the final configuration) and the rest by November 30, 2016 (fully compliant with the specifications).
