Boeing rolled out the first Boeing 777X test airframe at Everett, Washington early in September. The airframe is the first static test specimen and will be used for structural strength testing. It does not feature a nose cone, horizontal stabiliser, vertical tailplane or avionics systems, but it is equipped with the folding wingtip (FWT) mechanism that will make the 777X different from all earlier Triple Sevens. On taxi for departure the FWT will be manually extended by the crew and locked for take-off, and upon landing it will automatically folded once the aircraft's ground speed is below 5Okts (92km/h).
