THE ROYAL Australian Air Force's fleet of McDonnell Douglas F/A-18A/B 'Classic' Hornets - now in the very twilight of their service careers - achieved the significant milestone of 400,000 flying hours in August. August 2019 was also a significant month for two other Australian Defence Force (ADF) aircraft types; early in the month, the RAAF quietly took delivery of its third and last Dassault Falcon 7X Special Purpose Aircraft (SPA) in Canberra, for use on VIP transport duties with 34 Squadron. At the end of August, Airbus, Bell and Boeing revealed their proposals for a new Australian Army Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter capability to replace the existing Airbus Helicopters Tiger ARH fleet.
