THE RUSSIAN Ministry of Industry and Trade has given the green light to the Sukhoi Superjet-New (SSJ-New) regional airliner. The first prototype for static test is to be built by next year and the flight tests are to start between 2022 and 2023, with series production of the Superjet-New set to commence by 2024. A number of Superjet initiatives have been actioned in recent years, including the extended 130-seat SSJ-130 and shortened 75-seat SSJ-75, both of which have been abandoned.
