THE USAF has proposed retiring 17 "structurally deficient" B-1B Lancer supersonic strategic bombers in 2021. The plan was announced by Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC), which intends to focus maintenance costs and manpower on the fleet's healthier aircraft. AFGSC in co-ordination with contractors, the programme office, combatant command planners and airmen from the air arm's weapons school has changed a variety of the flight employment tactics of its remaining Lancers to keep them airworthy.
