THE DIRECTION Generate de I'Armement (DGA) - the French military procurement agency - and Airbus Helicopters are to work on a "new set of studies" to militarise the H160, A recently signed contract launches "pre-development activities" for the military version of the helicopter, which will be called the Guepard (cheetah) in French service. The H160M is being acquired by the DGA under the Helicoptere Interarmees Leger (HIL, Joint Light Helicopter) procurement initiative, As its name implies, HIL intends to introduce a single platform to meet the needs of the army, navy and air force. France intends to acquire 169 Guepards to perform missions ranging from commando infiltration to air interception, fire support and anti-ship warfare.
