Business Jets to Remain at Bombardier's Core?

AS AIR International went to press, it appeared the future of Bombardier's aircraft activities will continue to be centred on its business jets, after a period of uncertainty. Over the last few years Bombardier has sought to sell assets to reduce its level of debt - the divestment of its commercial aviation programmes being the most visible aspect of the plan. The company presented Airbus with a controlling stake in the C Series airliner (later A220), while the Dash 8 programme was sold to Longview Aviation Capital and the CRJ to Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. In addition to its aviation assets, the company also offered its rail division for sale. Little information about the future of the business jets was released however, until an article appeared in the Wall Street Journal on February 4 claiming that talks about their sale to Textron Aviation were under way. While neither party confirmed the negotiations, the prospect of Textron acquiring the Challenger, Global and Learjet programmes raised several intriguing questions about the future of the Canadian company's involvement in aviation and its impact within the business jet market.
