GLOBAL MEASURES to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic have had an unprecedented impact on the aviation industry, with travel bans hitting business jet activity particularly hard. Booking for charter flights initially increased in many regions as travellers sought alternatives to the main airlines or were unwilling to fly with carriers amid infection risks. This changed as limits were imposed on international travel, reducing such flights in Europe, with an overall 6% dip in business aviation flights in the first week of March, including a 40% decline in flights from Italy, the centre of the European outbreak.
