THE USAF has officially ordered four turboprop-driven light attack aircraft - two Textron Aviation AT-6C Wolverines and a pair of Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC)/Embraer A-29 Super Tucanos. SNC announced the A-29 order on March 3, stating that the US$129m contract will include delivery of both aircraft with related ground and logistics support equipment, pilot training, spares and sustainment. Mark Williams, vice-president of aviation strategic plans and programs for SNC's ISR, Aviation and Security business, said: "[The company] is honoured to build and deliver the combat-proven A-29 to the [USAF]... The [air arm] will now have the opportunity to deploy the A-29 in support of US and allied operations. This acquisition provides long overdue capabilities to the warfighter and best value to the US taxpayer."
