The acquisition of seven Boeing CH-47F Chinooks for the Australian Defence Force has been given 'second pass' approval by the Government, according to the Minister for Defence, Senator John Faulkner, speaking on February 25. Cost of the programme is approximately A$755 million (￡455 million). The heavy-lift helicopters will be acquired under Project AIR 9000 Phase 5c to replace the six CH-47D Chinooks that entered service in 1995 with the Australian Army Air Corps and are currently flown by C-Squadron of the 5th Aviation Regiment from Townsville, Queensland.
