Block 15 F-16A 82-0986 is one of several Fighting Falcons.being prepared as prototypes for the QF-16 Air Superiority Target (AST) program. All of the AST aircraft will be capable of being flown with or without a pilot and rated with between 50 to 300 hours of serviceable life. Seen at the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group facility at Davis-Monthan on March 2, F-16A 82-0986 was retired from service with Illinois ANG's 170th Fighter Squadron in 1993 with 2,535.5 airframe hours of flight time. On March 9, 2010 Boeing was awarded a US Air Force contract worth approximately $69.7 million for the initial engineering, manufacturing and development of QF-16 Air Superiority Targets.
