Acquired as part of the Deepwater recapitalisation plan, the missionized Lockheed Martin HC-130J Super Hercules is one of the newest and most capable patrol aircraft operated by the United States Coast Guard (USCG). The service plans to operate a unit of six such machines while upgrading its remaining fleet of 16 HC-130H airframes, yielding a total inventory of 22 Long Range Surveillance (LRS) aircraft.
