"The Battle of Britain spirit lives on today in the Royal Air Force Support Helicopter crews flying and fighting with the British Army in Afghanistan", was the recent comment of a very senior British Army General at a defence conference. At any other time such a remark might have been brushed aside as the view of someone who is not directly involved with the RAF but as the UK armed services are poised to have their role in the national defence strategy placed under the microscope it clearly warrants more analysis.
