Competitors for the Indian Air Force (IAF) requirement for 126 new medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) all submitted their bids by the April 28 deadline. This had been extended from the previous deadline of March 3 after requests from some of the bidders, who did not feel that they had had enough time to respond to the Request for Proposals issued in August. Boeing was the first to submit its offer, four days early on April 24, having already had its submission ready for the earlier deadline, before it was extended. Its detailed, 7,000-page proposal involves the F/A-18IN, a variant of the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet specifically tailored to IAF requirements. Precise details of the aircraft specification have not been revealed but Boeing does confirm that advanced technology features will include the Raytheon APG-79 Active Electronically Scanned Array radar. The company says that deliveries of the first F/A-18INs can commence within approximately 36 months of contract signature.
