This book gives an American perspective on the development of the Harrier from the 1950s to today's aircraft on duty in Afghanistan and Iraq. Its topics include the Harrier ll's near-cancellation in the 1970s and its achievements in the Gulf War and in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Lon Nordeen has written it from the US Marine Corps' viewpoint and sets out his stall from the beginning, saying that in his opinion the aircraft "was successful solely because of the unswerving commitment of the US Marine Corps".
