KAMAN AIR Vehicles has launched the K-MAX Titan, a new unmanned version of its K-MAX utility helicopter.With its contra-rotating twin rotors, the distinctive K-MAX first flew in 1991 and following its introduction three years later carved a niche carrying out heavy-lift and external-lift operations including cargo delivery in demanding situations and challenging hot and high environments.Headquartered in Bloomfield, Connecticut,Kaman reports the Titan is the first heavy-lift unmanned helicopter developed for civil applications and claims it "will redefine the helicopter external-lift market by increasing future mission capabilities in any location and any type of weather".Designed for repetitive external load operations, the Titan will be able to carry 6,000lb payloads in hot and high environments. As well as a production aircraft, the variant will be available as a retrofit for existing K-MAX helicopters.
