Grummanf-14D Tomcats of VF-31 Tomcatters and VF-213 Black Lions left Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia, on September 1, 2005, for the type's final cruise, embarking on the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71). Assigned to Carrier Air Wing Eight (CVW-8), the aircraft are currently supporting Operation Steel Curtain, an offensive aimed at preventing cells of Al-Qaeda from entering Iraq from Syria.
