THE UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has exercised the clause in its contract with General Atomics-Aeronautical Systems, Inc (GA-ASI) to supply more Protector RG Mkl remotely piloted air systems to the Royal Air Force. A July 2020 order comprised the manufacture and delivery of an initial three Protectors plus 13 options. All those options have now been exercised, giving the RAF an eventual 16-strong Protector fleet. Initial operational capability of the system, which will be based at RAF Waddington, is scheduled for 2024.
