Though developed as a dedicated Cold War submarine hunter, the BAE Systems Nimrod MR.2 has become one of the most important and versatile aircraft in the RAF's post Cold War inventory and is increasingly being seen as a multi-role long-range intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) aircraft and even as a potential long range attack aircraft.
