Desptite still being seen as a somewhat 'narrow' world and a 'low-use/ad-hoc business' within the worldwide airfreight transport industry, over-sized air cargo transport in Russia has been solely developed by a pair of CIS (Commonwealth of the Independent States) airlines operating the gargantuan An-124 Ruslan in a highly profitable manner. Their success has been made possible by two UK companies, Air Foyle and HeavyLift, acting as general sales agents to promote the An-124 on the international market, who have achieved the initial 'coup' of getting the type - then unknown among the global airfreight community - into commercial service.
