On the opening day of the Farnborough International Airshow on July 14 Airbus officially launched the Airbus A330neo. The A330 neo family comprises the A330-800neo and -900neo, which will replace for the A330-200 and -300 respectively. A330neos will be powered by the new Roll-Royce Trent 7000 and feature aerodynamic refinements to reduce fuel-burn over the baseline airliner by 14% per seat. The Trent 7000 builds upon experience gained from the Trent 700, one of three engine choices for the current A330. It also uses technology and internal configurations from the Trent 1000-TEN and the Trent XWB. Rated between 68,000 and 72,000lb St (302.5 to 320kN), the Trent 7000 will have twice the bypass ratio (at 10:1), a larger (112in; 2.84m) diameter fan, 10% better specific fuel consumption and half the perceived noise of the Trent 700. The new variants will have a wingspan of 64m (210ft), increased from 60.3m (197ft 10in), with winglets derived from those used on the A350 XWB, Range will be increased by approximately 400nm (740km).
