The NATO Summit 2014 at Celtic Manor in Newport, Wales, involved a number of VIP aircraft, including the first deployment of Bell-Boeing MV-22B Ospreys of Marine Helicopter Squadron One (HMX-1) to the UK. Based at MCAS Quantico, Virginia, the unit is responsible for transporting the President of the United States - its NIGHTHAWK callsign becoming MARINE ONE when he is onboard. HMX-1 deployed seven aircraft during President Barack Obama's time at the summit. Four MV-22Bs arrived in the UK on August 27. They were supported by a pair of Lockheed Martin KC-130J Hercules from Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 252 (VMGR-252) at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina. Using the callsign OTIS, the two flights of three aircraft arrived at RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire, following stops at St John's, Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada, and Lajes in the Azores.
