The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has certified 'Sharklets' for use on CFM International CFM56-powered Airbus A320s. The approval was announced on December 3 following the completion of a ten-month flight test programme for the fuel-saving wingtip devices, which are being offered as retrofits to in-service A320s and as an option on new-build aircraft. Certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration for the aircraft powered by CFM56s, and also for those with the International Aero Engine V2500, was due as AIR International went to press.
