Airbus Military conducted the first flight of a production A400M transport on March 6 from its facility at Seville-San Pablo Airport in Spain. Captained by Experimental Test Pilot Hughes Van Der Stichel, the aircraft (EC-007/0007, msn 7) was airborne for five hours 42 minutes. It is one of 50 destined for the Armee de I'Air (French Air Force), including eight configured for air-to-air refuelling. The aircraft was rolled out on January 15 (see French A400M Rolled Out, March, p10) and is due to be delivered by June after being granted its initial operating clearance (IOC).
