A re-dedication ceremony was held in a hangar onboard HMS Illustrious as the helicopter carrier sailed back from Hamburg in Germany. The ceremony was held on December 16, 2011, and followed two months of intensive training and assessment off the South West coast as the warship prepares to take over from HMS Ocean as the 'on-call' helicopter carrier. HMS Illustrious sailed from a 16-month long refit in Scotland in June 2011, during which it was modified for its new role following the retirement of the Harrier GR9/9A fleet. Command of the ship passed from Captain Jerry Kyd to Captain Martin Connell on January 5.
