Eight Luftwaffe Eurofighters from Jagdgeschwader 74 (JG 74) arrived at Eielson AFB, Alaska, on May 14 after a two-day journey from Germany. This marked the start of the first Luftwaffe Eurofighter deployment to the United States and, according to Neuberg-based 742 Stafel's Commanding Officer, Lt Col Marc Turbo' Gruene, the objective was "to get the German Air Force to a certain standard and prove that we can play a lead role in a modern combat role."
