Boeing completed the maiden flight of the Phantom Eye Liquid hydrogen-powered unmanned air vehicle from Edwards AFB, California, on June 1. The aircraft was airborne for 28 minutes, during which it reached an altitude of 4,080ft (1,243m) and demonstrated a cruise speed of 62kts (115km/h). However, upon landing it suffered minor damage when the undercarriage dug into the lakebed and broke. Boeing was due to make an assessment of what repairs were needed before it could undertake a second flight.
