In early 2012, China procured a new batch of Russian engines. According to the Russian newspaper Vedomosti, they included up to 140 AL-31F fighter engines worth approximately $700 million. The engines will be produced at the Moscow-based Salut company. During the past two years, China is known to have purchased Russian-made aero engines worth almost $4 billion, enough to keep Salut's production line busy until 2015.
