Qatar Airways wants to establish an airline in Saudi Arabia after that country introduced a new more liberal aviation policy. The growing Middle Eastern carrier has registered a company in the country and its Chief Executive, Akbar Al-Baker, has held talks with Prince Fahad bin Abdullah Al Saud about opportunities following Saudi Arabia's decision to permit new airline licences. Al-Baker said Qatar Airways was interested in opening a Saudi-based airline because of pent-up demand for more internal air services. He added, however, that fuel charges and the government's policy of controlling air fares would need to change if Qatar was to establish a carrier there.
