Czech aircraft repair company LOM has won a 50 million Czech koruna ($2.65 million) tender to provide training for 12 Polish pilots on Mil Mi-17 Hip transport helicopters at its centre in Pardubice. The 12 come from a military unit stationed in the town of Powidz, Poland, and will undergo training until the end of November. They already have experience on Mi-8s and similar helicopters, so only require several hours on the simulators at Pardubice before starting to train on the actual helicopters. "The focus is on tactical skills, especially during battles that take place in zero visibility," says LOM's executive director, Pavel Beran -who declined to disclose the nationality of other pilots currently training at the centre, or which tenders LOM is currently bidding for.
