The Fetters AeroSpace SVU-200 unmanned helicopter completed its first fully-autonomous flight in Changsha, China, on September 4. The flight consisted of take-off, hover at 328ft (100m), sideways and backwards flying, forward flight to hovering, landing and cross-country flying to test navigation and communications equipment. The helicopter is powered by a 78hp (58kW) Rotax 582 engine and has a top speed of 130 mph (209km/h). It features two payload bays and is designed to carry under-slung loads. The SVU-200 is the latest rotary-wing unmanned air system designed by Dennis Fetters, a freelance American UAS developer, to be test-flown in China.
