The Russian military's Spetsnaz training centre at Senezh in the Moscow Oblast wants to acquire new Mil Mi-8 Hip helicopters configured for the special operations missions. They will be equipped with advanced passive infrared sensors and armed with machine-guns, unguided rockets and anti-tank guided missiles. The need for specially configured Hips has arisen because the current Mi-8MTK0s, while equipped with passive infrared sensors, are not capable of being fitted with a door hoist or fast rope rappelling to insert special operations forces from a hover, while the Mi-8MTV-5 and Mi-8AMTSh also lack infrared sensors.
