Following a visit to the Aero Vodochody factory on October 12 the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Iraq, Sadoon Al-Dulaimi, and his Czech counterpart, Alexandr Vondra, announced that Iraq has ordered 28 L-159 Advanced Light Combat Aircraft. The deal covers the supply of 24 L-159A single-seat and four two-seat aircraft and was concluded after two years of negotiations. The aircraft will be sourced from the 38 L-159As stored by the Czech Air Force. It has not been reported whether some of these will be modified as two-seaters or if Aero Vodochody will produce new examples for the Iraqi Air Force. The Czech Republic has tried to sell the stored aircraft for several years. Recently, Slovakia considered acquiring some to replace its L-39 Albatros, trading in its current advanced trainers to partly fund the purchase.
