  George J. Marre.it, from Grand Island, Nebraska, was a test pilot for the U.S. Air Force and Hughes Aircraft Company. In 1968-1969 he flew 188 combat missions in Vietnam as a Douglas A-IE Skyraider "Sandy" rescue pilot in the 602nd Fighter Squadron (C), C for Commando, flying from Udorn and Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Force Bases in Thailand. After retirement from Hughes Aircraft in 1989, he became one of the founders of the Estrella Warbird Museum at the Paso Rubles, California airport where he owns and flies a 1945 Stinson L-5E Sentinel. In the last four years he has published three books: Cheating Death: Combat Air Rescues in Vietnam and Laos by the Smithsonian Institute Press, Howard Hughes: Aviator by the Naval Institute Press, and Testing Death: Hughes Aircraft Test Pilots and Cold War Weaponry by Praeger security International. The Naval Institute Press will publish his latest book, Contrails over the Mojave, in Spring 2008.;
