One of the few aircraft that got airborne to counter the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the P-40 was the most advanced U.S. fighter at the time. This one wears the livery that distinguished the volunteer-flown Tomahawks that bested the Japanese in China (see "Kunming Remembers the Flying Tigers," p. 34).
