This charming book documents the restoration of a Bleriot monoplane built by the VanDersarl brothers, Frank and Jules, near Denver, Colorado, in 1911. The restored airplane was flown in 2012 by owner Javier Arango, co-author of the book with Philip Makanna, whose luminous photographs dominate. Since his first book was published nearly 30 years ago, Makanna has set the standard for air-to-air shots. His distinctive style-well-lit, full-frame, and saturated-has been widely emulated. Compared to the ghostly archival shots included in his books, Makanna's photos seem to make the aircraft live.
