Several nights a month, as twilight fades to black, a Cessna 182Q takes off from Ryan Field in southern Arizona to survey the lights around Tucson. Instruments aboard the airplane record sky brightness and manmade lighting, which are depriving skywatchers of a clear view of the stars.
