Dave Baranek (call sign "Bio") was an F-l 4 radar intercept officer (RIO) when in 1984 he was chosen to become an instructor at Topgun, the U.S. Navy's Fighter Weapons School in San Diego, California. The next year, Baranek and other Topgun personnel aided Paramount Pictures in ensuring that the movieTop Gun depicted the school's educational experience accurately.
