FOR THE FIRST TIME, an Army brigade in Afghanistan is using tiny, Black Hornet personal drones. In August, paratroopers from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, deployed the device—which weighs less than two ounces and has a flight time of up to 25 minutes—for overhead surveillance while conducting patrols in Kandahar Province. The Army said in 2018 that it plans to eventually issue the drone to each of its infantry units.
