At a recent symposium, IATA laid out a transformative vision for air travel vis-a-vis an expectation of a near doubling in demand over the next two decades. Good news, indeed. However, IATA did also warn that “no matter how much or how quickly we innovate our processes, there is no getting around the need to be both smart and quick in growing airport and airspace capacity.” The risk would be to generate what IATA called an “infrastructure crisis”, without even taking into consideration the complex challenge of drones (UAS).
