AMHS is the standard now being adopted for ground-to-ground communications between and within aviation authorities for sensitive information such as flight plans and meteorological data. It is gradually replacing systems based on two older standards: AFTN (Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network) and CIDIN (Common ICAO Data Interchange Network).
