Air Canada signed a letter of intent (LOI) to buy as many as 75 Bombardier CSeries aircraft, a commitment that Bombardier CEO Alain Bellemare called a "turning point" for the Canadian manufacturer's foray into the narrowbody airliner sector. Prior to the Feb. 18 Air Canada deal, which includes 45 firm orders for the larger CS300 variant of the CSeries plus 30 options that could be converted to the smaller CS100, the CSeries had been stalled on the sales side. Certification of the CS100 and a $1 billion investment in the CSeries program by the Quebec government arrived in the 2015 fourth quarter, but sales remained stubbornly stuck at 243 firm orders.
