"The decade whets a sword." Spring Airlines chairman Wang Zhenghua used this well-known Chinese saying to describe how he launched the low-cost carrier (LCC) in 2004. He started his research on what type of carrier he wanted to establish in 1994. Wang set up the Spring Travel Agency in 1981. But it became increasingly imperative for him to establish his own carrier as domestic airlines took away the majority of profit Spring earned from air charter services.
