Singapore Airlines parent SIA Group reported a net profit of SGD50 million ($39 million) for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 2013, down 65% from SGD142.5 million during the same period the previous year. SIA said this third-quarter downturn was largely due to exceptional items, including an impairment loss on four surplus freighters that have been put up for sale, settlement of penalty payments in the US and Switzerland, and share of losses resulting from its increased shareholding in Tiger Airways.
