US civil aircraft sales totaled $49.68 billion in 2011, up 3.1% year-over-year, and will rise another 4.1% in 2012 to $51.71 billion, the US Aerospace Industries Assn. (AIA) said last month in releasing its annual forecast. Civil sales are buttressing a US aerospace manufacturing sector that expects reduced sales this year in other sectors, including defense and space, AIA president and CEO Marion Blakey said.
