With Kingfisher Airline's recent problems, the airline industry in India is once again in the limelight. The Indian air travel market is a rapidly growing market, but as it matures there will be growing pains and the players will have to adjust. Income in India is growing rapidly and this is driving demand. With a population base of over 1 billion people and about 60 million domestic passengers per year, the domestic market is still only 5-6% of the population, yet the domestic market in India could reach 600-800 million passengers over the long term.
