Air cargo is all about speed-it moves goods faster over longer distances than any other transport mode-but the industry's effort to eliminate the reams of paper accompanying airfreight has been slow moving. Former IATA DG and CEO Giovanni Bisignani several years ago lamented that air cargo was not moving as urgently toward automating documents as passenger airlines had moved to remove paper from the ticketing process. Widespread adoption of "e-freight" would have a massive impact and greatly speed the processing of air cargo ship ments, he said.
