The European Regions Airline Assn. said a vote by the European Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety to auction 100% of emissions certificates by 2020 will cost the "typical" regional airline €6 million ($8.2 million) per year. "The fact that more than 1,100 amendments to the mother directive were proposed without any form of impact assessment when so much is at risk-company survival, jobs, international access for Europe's regions-is not just grossly unacceptable, it is thoroughly irresponsible," DG Mike Ambrose said. ERA issued a resolution calling on the European Commission, MEPs and the European Council of Ministers to ensure the change does not pass. Ambrose told reporters at ERA's annual meeting that he expected around 35 additional airline bankruptcies this winter, according to Reuters. Pinnacle Airlines Corp., parent of Pinnacle Airlines and Colgan Air, plans to exercise up to 15 Q400 options before year end if it can reach agreement with its mainline partners, President and CEO Phil Trenary told ATW. Colgan currently operates the aircraft on behalf of Continental Connection. Pinnacle and Colgan operate regional jets and turboprops respectively and also fly for Northwest Airlink, Delta Connection, US Airways Express and United Express.
