摘要

Situated at the crossroads between Europe and Asia along the legendary Silk Road trade routes, the airlines of the Central Asia region have their challenges. Lack of efficient ground transportation and the enormous distances involved create the ideal circumstances for development of efficient air services. But countries like Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan suffer from an assortment of maladies, many of them the legacies of years of Soviet misrule. Per capita GDP remains very low and transportation infrastructure, including aviation, is inadequate, making development of an air network a challenge.
