There are several items of equipment in the cabin that need to be checked on a regular basis, either because they have to be present during flight and/or because they have fixed maintenance intervals so have to be removed for overhaul. Generally speaking this is not much of a problem, but quantity and access can generate high workloads for some equipment. The greatest amount of work is caused by life vests. In addition to regular inspections, they have to be present for every flight - a missing life vest means a passenger cannot be carried, which could hurt the airline's bottom line. The length of time taken to ensure they are all present and correct clearly varies with aircraft size. Additionally, other emergency equipment, as well as oxygen generators, require periodic checks, though these are often located in difficult to access spots around the cabin.
